Google Maps for iPad Coming Soon - The iPad Guide

Google had plenty to say about its Maps app at this year’s Google I / O keynote presentation. Ever since Apple launched its own mapping application millions of iOS 6 users have downloaded Google’s stand-alone Google Maps app, released in December. iPad owners were left out of the fun, but the company now says an iPad version is in the works and will arrive this summer.

Google Maps iPad

iPad compatibility alone won’t be the only improvement coming to Google Maps for iOS. Google touted a new “Experience” feature that will display indoor maps for many places on an interface designed for tablet displays. The Maps update will also include new location and restaurant ratings from Zagat along with Google Offers integration.

Zagat ratings can be viewed and submitted directly in the app. Google Offers can automatically display discounts and coupons from participating retailers in Maps, customized to search results and current location. Improvements to live traffic coverage will be linked to dynamic re-routing functionality, making it possible to easily avoid incidents and traffic problems around the world.

Google Maps on iPhone provides the full power of Google local search, public transit directions, turn-by-turn navigation, Street View and more. When signed in with a Google account, the app makes it possible to sync searches, favorites and directions between the iOS device and a computer. During its first two days on the App Store, Google Maps was installed over 10 million times. The I / O keynote did not announce an exact Google Maps for iPad release date but hang in there iPad fans, summer is right around the corner.
