SampleTank for iPad – additional mutations programs transferred from classical computers

Apparently, it looks like today, that does not make one a mutation, or a version of INEC, as if he did not exist. The trend is clear and tabletománie touch-screen flourish and grow. Time will tell, and in a few years we will know if it was a sidestep, or have us think of using anything else.

still had me wonder whether the finger and the associated graphics can be replaced after all, according to I, precise and flexible control conventional keyboard and mouse. Respectively, due to the size of the pointer and motion sensitivity to fit on the screen for many more controls, and therefore in proportion to the increase complexity and cost of the program, which of course leads to a much faster and lucid control if the task has so many parameters and controls required .

SampleTank made by IK Multimedia is another mutation and represents, in terms of sound and recording options, relatively powerful tool that can be quite easily controlled using the touch screen. So let’s take a look at SampleTank and perhaps show us the answers to the previous questions indicated lines.

Sounds

SampleTank has four tracks instruments (labeled as party A, B, C and D), where you can select a report of his band or recording. The tools menu is extensive and includes over drums and bass, percussion, piano, organ, synths and brass instruments and sampled choirs. In each instrument category is the full version ample tonal possibilities and will definitely choose from. Every sound is assigned countless licks, patterns, arppegií … In short, who did not want to invent something too, so finding what suits him, and the creation of groove loops is easy to work with as legem. However, if you connect the iPad with IRIG MIDI keyboard, you can fully develop their playing skills. And after all, using the keyboard or pads on the display to create something. But when you try it, maybe it will take some practice his skills. For example, the catch finger pitchbendové wheel is no fun.

Every sound has quite a lot of parameters that it can reshape its image. What will it alw ays depends on sound. But always an equalizer or effects such as compressor, transposition, or treatment during the envelopes …

Advanced Audio Coding (AAC for short) is a standard for lossy audio compression. It was developed as a logical successor to MP3 on medium to high Bitrich the MPEG4 standard.
However, the AAC is one of the most advanced audio compression format.

Recording

So if you have your band chosen “players” are ready to shoot. In the next Screen you can do either by double-manual keyboard or the next available nut cases. Keyboard, you can move your finger so the range is sufficient and pads while you can mount such percussion instruments as it is more convenient for ultimate comfort during the game. You can play individual sounds, tones or run licks and patterns from different tones, so you can easily create harmony recordings. If you are in the chord licks and respect the scale selected with the keyboard, where supply is fourteen scales like pentatonic, some mods, Gypsy, harmonic minor … and of course fully transposable to all twelve semitones. It remains to choose than the length of the loop (1-32 bars), natapovat pace yourself and you can record. If you are after all quite rhythmically savvy, SampleTank provides a simple quantization algorithm that supports swing and triolové feeling. Similarly, the metronome wi ll help only when recording. But given the fact that you will probably always start drum loops, so I did not see it as a problem.

Tracks and records a record with Recording Manager, and when you are satisfied, you can export them to e-mail or on the web. The output format is stereo ACC format.

And finally …

The overall concept is to see that there is the first effort in a limited environment touchscreens provide just such graphics and controls such that it would lead to a simple and intuitive controls, but with the greatest ability to make a professional recording. The site of the company is very nice photo gallery of the recording samples, such as where you can see how he was captured Steinway piano, Hammond and Brazilian guitar Gianninni. In my opinion, if we take the time to learn how to treat SampleTank, so you can be a very valuable source of inspiration when creating music.

SampleTank for iPad for live playing?

For a long time I deal to replace my very old performances on stage piano Yamaha Clavinova PF P-100 with the balance (physically correct “weight “) 36 kg something lighter, what will not hurt as much when moving back. Unfortunately, I was so accustomed (and the band as well) to punchy, well bonding piano sound I’m looking for something that will sound like. I tried everything possible – Yamaha, Korg, Kurzweil, Privite Roland, Kawaii, and much more, and still nothing. Computers with Native instuments or similar vercajkem not want to pull, regardless of the risk of failure during the concert.

So I was very intrigued by the possibility to use a master keyboard and iPad with SampleTank as a sound bank. So I submitted this combination of durability and usability testing.

SampleTank is the “feeler” pleasant to use and is available really many options and very decent sound banks. Experienced MIDI via MIDI IRIG works quite smoothly, although I had planned to use for live performance rather Alesis iO Dock. I will further explore control and the details of which are in the main article, and immediately know that you are in my case mentioned combination unusable.
The reasons are (without any sequence):

does not respond to MIDI Program Change – can therefore be selected, what sounds are where the program, and these then switch on the keyboard, you can switch sounds just right on the iPad screen, making for fast switching audio middle track is not at all safe. Lupe when switching noises – when switching to SampleTank sound before it has reached right edge of the samples (while holding the pedal, long release, etc.), you hear the annoying pop and strong enough.

Some sounds, such as classical piano, have a very sharp transition between distinctly audible samples for quiet and powerful playing – between samples is no crossfade.

Some tools significantly noisy – for example, Fretless Bass (at the piano fortunately noise is hardly noticeable).
Some tools are hard-assigned effects (chorus with Acoustic Guitar), whose adjustment to SampleTank sound when switching remember – probably could be modified instruments with characteristics of sound to save as project (song), but it takes me at my user naive approach failed.

I also noticed a slight latency issues – SampleTank has two options: Low and Ultralow. When set to Low, I recorded a very small, but emotionally-register delay beep sound. When setting Ultralow Although I have not noticed any lag, but sometimes when playing full already occurred here and there some subtle glitches.

No reaction to change the MIDI volume (in the usual kontoléru 7) or to other MIDI controllers (eg aftertouch).
SampleTank for iPad has a 24-chord polyphony – the normal playing it while seemingly enough, but in the larger run down the keyboard with pedal audibly disappear first edge tones.

Playing with an iPad but would generally not condemn – most users these shortcomings might not mind, and if someone already has an iPad, an investment in Iriga and SampleTank for decent sound bank really small. The rest of you probably either have to wait for the next version of SampleTank, or will have to iMaschine from Native Instruments and classical sounds, or for something completely different …

For the sake of completeness, I shall argue that the testing was used iPad3 ( officially new iPad) 3G 64 gigabytes
